The Triple A community of stations grew by one recently with the launch of Novaphonic in Dayton. The new Novaphonic is a Music Discovery service from NPR News WYSO-FM in Dayton and southwest Ohio. In addition to the 24/7 stream and app, Novaphonic airs on WYSO’s FM signal during music hours.
Music Director Juliet Fromholt led the creation of Novaphonic with Assistant Music Director Evan Miller. Juliet commented, “Our goal is to support a community of musicians and music fans and for that community to feel welcoming and inclusive. Diversity is an essential part of our daily mix of music.”
Novaphonic was pre-dated by “WYSO Music,” which has been an important part Dayton’s local music scene for years with events including Music In Ohio, Yellow Springs Concert Series, Tiny Stack and Art On The Commons. The new service promises to increase its support for local artists, venues, and events.
Thanks to a donation from comedian and local celeb Dave Chappelle along with many others, WYSO and Novaphonic raised over $2.5 million to build a new facility at the historic Union Schoolhouse in Yellow Springs. The new facility includes live performance spaces and is expected to open in the Summer of 2025.
Launching a new radio station is always special, but working with Juliet, Evan, Director of Development & Communications Amanda Burks, and General Manager Luke Dennis has been as rewarding of an experience as we’ve ever had. Paragon has been “all hands on deck” with consulting support from myself and Jordan Lee (content strategy), Michelle Conrad (digital content/marketing), Zach Gilltrap (imaging production), and John Stevens (technology/operations). Tune in and turn it up!
