It’s not surprising that KUT News in Austin is one of the highest rated NPR News stations in America. General Manager Debbie Hiott is a seasoned journalist with a print background. KUT News recently increased their commitment to local news by adding newscasts and features throughout the midday hours. Local news beats include Health, Education, and Energy & Environment. Partnerships, such as one with Austin Vida that features local Latino culture called Austin Cultura, are commonplace. Podcasts such as Pause/Play, which puts a spotlight on Austin’s bright music scene, also include Growth Machine: How Austin Engineered its Housing Market, Tacos of Texas and Black Austin Matter. A daily talk show, Texas Standard, is produced and distributed statewide. Multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards are bestowed on KUT News, including one in 2022 for Vaccinating Texas: A Tracking Project.
